Wilfred Zaha has signed a new contract with Crystal Palace – and Tottenham fans have reacted with disappointment on Twitter.

The club confirmed on their official website on Thursday evening that the 24-year-old has signed a five-year contract extension at Selhurst Park.

Over the past few months, there had been speculation that Zaha could possibly be heading to north London in the summer but he has now ended those rumours by signing a new deal.

Sam Allardyce, who replaced Alan Pardew in the Palace dugout in December, recently announced his shock retirement from football which added fuel to the fire that the club’s star players could then head for the exit door.

However, after helping his team survive relegation from the Premier League, Zaha will now be looking to kick on from his individual success this term.

One Spurs fan stated that now that Zaha has signed a contract extension, the club needs to look elsewhere for wide players, with the likes of Bayern Munich’s dangerman Douglas Costa mentioned.

Added to that, another supporter was disappointed at the news because he feels Zaha is what the club needed for next the next campaign.

Over the course of the season, Zaha provided 11 Premier League assists for his side, three more than what he managed to produce in his previous three seasons in England’s top flight.

Nonetheless, one fan was clear in what he wanted, “let’s replace Sissoko with Barkley”, with the latter still at Everton and yet to sign a new deal.

Overall, many Tottenham supporters seemed disappointed at Zaha’s decision as they think he would have faired better had he moved to White Hart Lane.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Over the course of the season, Zaha played 35 Premier League games for his side, scoring seven goals and supplying 11 assists.

That includes finding the back of the net and assisting Christian Benteke as his team recorded a stunning 2-1 win at Chelsea in April.
