Vincent Janssen scored for Tottenham during their post-season friendly win against Kitchee – and fans on Twitter are delighted for their player.

The 22-year-old struck the second goal of the match, with a simple tap in after Son Heung-Min had opened the scoring against the Hong Kong champions.

Striker Harry Kane came off the bench to add a third goal, with academy product Kazaiah Sterling also getting in on the act as Spurs won the match 4-1.

Mauricio Pochettino named a strong side that played in Asia on Friday, with the likes of Son, Kyle Walker, Dele Alli, Victor Wanyama, Hugo Lloris and Eric Dier all featuring.

Fans were pleased for Janssen because he has had a tough debut campaign in the Premier League following his big-money signing from AZ Alkmaar last summer.

Over the course of the season, he only scored two league goals as he struggled for form and consistency throughout the campaign despite his team securing the runners-up spot in the table.

As a result, many fans were making sarcastic comments such as “he score when he wants” and “Ballan d’Or inbound” as they were clearly making light of the situation.

Overall, the White Hart Lane faithful were just pleased that Janssen managed to find the back of the net, even though it was a post-season friendly match.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Over the course of the season, Janssen played 38 games in all competitions for Pochettino’s side, scoring six goals and supplying four assists.

Four of those strikes came during cup competitions, including scoring away at Liverpool as Spurs were knocked out of the fourth round of the EFL Cup.

Nonetheless, after a tough first season, Janssen will be looking to come back stronger next term and prove that he has what it takes to play for this Premier League title-chasing side.
