Dean Saunders has sensationally claimed that Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann will hold talks with Liverpool if he decides to join a Premier League club this summer.

Griezmann, 26, is one of the most sought after players in Europe following his performances for club and country over the past few years and Saunders believes he could be interested in a move to Anfield.

Speaking to LFC TV, the former Reds striker said: “I mentioned Griezmann and Liverpool will be on his list now. He will have a conversation with them if he’s coming to England.”

The ex-Reds striker’s comments come after the Daily Express claimed Man United boss Jose Mourinho has made Griezmann his number one transfer target this summer.

The Frenchman has been in superb form this term and has further solidified his reputation as one of Europe’s best forwards by scoring 26 goals in 53 league and cup games.

The Frenchman has been in particularly good form in La Liga, scoring 16 goals and providing eight assists in his 36 appearances – his efforts helped Atletico finish third in the division.

The 26-year-old has 41 caps for France and he helped them to the final of the European Championships last summer.

The Reds will look to improve their squad this summer ahead of a return to Champions League football next season after securing fourth place on the final day of the season by beating Middlesbrough 3-0 at Anfield.
