Newcastle are ready to sell Grant Hanley this summer and have slapped a £5.5million price tag on him, according to a Daily Record report.

The newspaper’s transfer rumours live blog (12.42pm Friday) claimed manager Rafa Benitez will look to off-load the 25-year-old defender less than 12 months after his move to St James’ Park.

The Toon signed the centre-back from Blackburn for £5.5million in July 2016 but he has failed to make an impact, and they will now look to recoup the fee as Benitez looks to overhaul his squad ahead of their return to the Premier League next season.

This comes after the Daily Mirror claimed Championship side Derby submitted a £4million bid for the Scotsman.

Hanley only made 10 appearances in the Magpies’ Championship winning campaign, as Jamaal Lascelles and Ciaran Clark were preferred.

The former Rangers youngster spent six years at Blackburn prior to joining Newcastle and made 200 appearances in all competitions for the club.

The 25-year-old was a mainstay of Blackburn’s back line in the 2015/16 campaign, playing 46 league and cup games.

The tough tackling centre-back has also been capped by Scotland on 27 occasions, scoring one goal, however he was not picked in Gordon Strachan’s squad for the World Cup qualifier against Slovenia in March.
