Pundit Gary Neville believes Arsene Wenger is fully deserving of a deal that will see him remain as manager of Arsenal beyond the current campaign.

Neville took to his personal Twitter account on Tuesday afternoon to deliver his three-word verdict, as Arsenal are reportedly set to hand Wenger a new two-year contract.

He said: “Congratulations and deserved.”

BBC Sport had earlier reported that the much-maligned Arsenal chief had agreed to sign a new long-term deal, following positive talks at a board meeting on Tuesday.

It is said that an official announcement will be made on Wednesday, confirming Wenger is set to remain at the club.

The 67-year-old has been in charge of the north London club for an incredible 21 years, but he faced an uncertain future at the club following a disappointing season in 2016-17.

Arsenal failed to finish in the Premier League’s top four and missed out on qualification for the Champions League, but Wenger earned a shot at redemption by winning his third FA Cup title in four seasons.

Many Arsenal fans had earlier called for Wenger to step down from his post at the end of the season, when his contract was set to expire, after a miserable run of form had left them seventh in the table in April.

But Wenger responded with a willingness to change his side’s tactics, a move which saw them win their last five league games, as well as beating Chelsea in the FA Cup Final.

Neville, whose former club Manchester United finished one place behind in sixth, has congratulated Wenger on his reportedly imminent deal, and believes it is ‘deserved’.
