Sporting Lisbon are set to rival Liverpool for the signing of Hull City left-back Andrew Robertson, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper claim the Portuguese outfit have made contact with the Tigers about the availability of the 23-year-old.

It is said Robertson is “intrigued at the prospect of playing in Europe”, though his preferred destination is Anfield.

This comes after the Mirror reported that Liverpool had already come to an agreement with Hull over the left-back and would announce the signing when the summer transfer window opens on July 1.

Robertson has been one of few bright sparks in Hull’s dismal season, which has seen them relegated from the Premier League.

The 23-year-old has been a mainstay of their back line and made 39 league and cup appearances this season, scoring one goal.

Robertson signed for the Tigers from Dundee United in the summer of 2014 for £2.85million, and has gone onto make more than 50 Premier League appearances for the club.

The attacking left-back also has 14 Scotland caps to his name, and one international goal, which came in 2014 in a 3-1 international friendly defeat against England.

The Scottish Sun report claims Sporting coach Jorge Jesus is looking to strengthen his squad this summer after a disappointing season, which saw his side finish in third in the league, 12 points behind champions Benfica.
