Liverpool are confident of signing Virgil van Dijk and Naby Keita this summer despite their combined £100million price tags, according to a reliable journalist.

Sky Sports Italy correspondent Gianluca Di Marzio, who is renowned as a transfer expert, has claimed on his personal website that the Premier League giants are planning to smash their record transfer fee on two occasions in the coming months.

Di Marzio reports that Liverpool are keen to close a deal for Southampton centre-back Van Dijk, who is regarded as one of the outstanding defenders in the Premier League and has attracted interest from elite clubs at home and abroad.

The Merseysiders are also working on prising midfield kingpin Keita from Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig.

Di Marzio states that it is Liverpool’s intention to sign the two players even though their price tags are expected to be around £50million, and the combined cost will amount to an eyewatering £100million.

This is way in excess of the £35million fee paid for record signing Andy Carroll in 2011, and the £34million shelled out for Sadio Mane last summer.

The pair are manager Jurgen Klopp’s priorities in the forthcoming transfer window and the club expect to gift him as the marquee signings.

Van Dijk, 25, is well known to Premier League audiences for his authoritative displays in the heart of the Southampton defence.

Box-to-box midfielder Keita has made a huge impact at Leipzig as goalscorer and creator since joining from Red Bull Salzburg last summer, with his 31 league appearances yielding eight goals and eight assists.
