Liverpool have been installed as the favourites to sign Manchester City full-back Gael Clichy in the summer transfer window, according to the latest bookmaker odds.
Sky Bet have priced the Merseyside club at 5/2 to acquire the signature of the 31-year-old France international.
The Reds are currently ahead of a host of Premier League clubs, with Southampton placed at 5/1 and newly promoted Newcastle United alongside Mark Hughes’ Stoke City both at 6/1.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have been in desperate need of a natural left-back for the entire season as former England international James Milner was deployed in the position as the Liverpool boss didn’t seem to trust Spaniard Alberto Moreno.
Clichy recently announced that he would be leaving Manchester City at the end of the season following six successful years at the Etihad.
When asked about England goalkeeper Joe Hart’s situation at the club, as quoted on the Sky Sports website, Clichy stated: “It’s hard. I’m not sure whether or not Joe will be here next season, and I won’t be here next season.”
The Frenchman hasn’t appeared to impress new manager Pep Guardiola this season and he will be the second full-back to the leave the club this summer alongside Argentine Pablo Zabaleta.
Clichy has made 25 Premier League appearances this season – his highest amount of games since the 2012-2013 campaign under Italian boss Roberto Mancini – and played in 39 matches in all competitions.
The France international has enjoyed great success in Manchester as he has collected two Premier League winning medals and he’s also won the League Cup twice. He also won the league at Arsenal in 2003-04.
