Steve Morison has revealed that Leeds United were paying his wages last season even though he quit the club to join Millwall in 2015.

Morison, 33, endured a difficult spell at Elland Road following a move from Norwich in January 2013, and had a season at Millwall in 2013-14 before joining the London outfit permanently in 2015.

Speaking to the Express, Wales international Morison revealed that the Yorkshire giants were forced to pay his wages last season a year after he had left the Yorkshire club.

“I was getting paid by Leeds last season. I wasn’t leaving Leeds until I got my money,” Morison revealed.

“They didn’t want me, I had a contract, but it wasn’t a sacrifice. I wanted to come here, I wanted to play for Neil Harris and Millwall football club.”

Morison’s reputation at Millwall was enhanced last weekend when he scored the winner in the League One play-off final against Bradford to ensure he will be back playing in the Championship next season, where his opponents will include former club Leeds.

Target man Morison scored just five goals in 42 league and cup appearances after then United manager Neil Warnock opted to sign the striker in a move that saw Argentinian fan favourite Luciano Becchio move to Carrow Road.

Morison, a former Northampton striker returned to Millwall for a second spell on loan after struggling to earn a place in the side under Brian McDermott following the sacking of Warnock.

Since joining Millwall permanently in August 2015, Morison has been in magnificent form for the Lions. Scoring 38 goals in two seasons, the Lions’ number 20 has also laid on a further 25 assists.

Despite scoring the winner in the League One play-off final in the 85th minute in a 1-0 win over Bradford, Morison has just over a month left on his contract at The Den with his future in doubt.
