Goalkeeper Mateusz Hewelt is one of four Everton youngsters to put pen to paper on new contracts, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The newspaper claim that the 20-year-old goalkeeper has agreed a new two-year deal, having played a key role for the Everton reserve team this season.

Three other Everton rookies Courtney Duffus, Gethin Jones and Calum Dyson are also said to have signed new deals, but there has still be official confirmation from the club.

Polish youngster Hewelt kept nine clean sheets from 20 appearances as Everton’s Under 21 side cruised to the Premier League 2 division title.

But he had also earned several call-ups to the first-team squad in the absence of the injured Maarten Stekelenburg, but remained an unused substitute on six occasions.

Hewelt appeared to be heading for the exit door at Goodison Park this summer with just weeks’ left to run on his previous deal, but it is understood that he is now set to remain at Everton for the long-term.

The Echo report suggests that Everton have made large steps towards retaining the services of some of the club’s most prized young assets, with several of his academy team-mates also signing new deals.

Everton have already confirmed on Twitter that attacker Nathan Broadhead had been tied down until the summer of 2020.
