Serie A outfit Bologna are looking to bring West Ham loanee Jonathan Calleri to Italy after he was told his loan would not be made permanent, according to a reliable journalist.

Sport Italia journalist Alfredo Pedulla reported on his personal website that the 23-year-old could be set for a second loan spell in Europe, despite a disappointing spell with the Hammers this season.

West Ham reported on their official website that Calleri was set to return to parent club Deportivo Maldonado, who play in the second tier of Uruguayan football.

However, Bologna could now help the former Sao Paulo forward revive his career with another temporary move after securing their top-flight status for another season in 15th place.

It is believed that Bologna have tried to sign Calleri in the past, rivalling West Ham for his signature last summer before the Argentinian moved to the Premier League.

West Ham’s number 28 was unable to break his way into Slaven Bilic’s side on a regular basis this season, with the likes of Andy Carroll, Andre Ayew and Simone Zaza preferred up front.

The striker made just 19 appearances in all competitions for the east London outfit, scoring just one goal with a deflected effort in a 3-1 win against Middlesbrough back in January.

His form has seen him fail to earn an extended stay at the London Stadium, joining first-team stars Alvaro Arbeloa and Gokhan Tore in being offloaded by the Hammers.
