Aston Villa are likely to sign defender Alex Bruce after his release from Hull this summer, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.

Ladbrokes have priced the Midlands giants at 6/4 to land the 32-year-old centre-back before the transfer window closes on 3 September.

The betting company have opened a market on Bruce after the official Hull website confirmed his release from the club on Wednesday following their relegation.

The link with Aston Villa naturally comes with Bruce’s father Steve Bruce managing the club and he has been signed twice by his dad previously when in charge of the Tigers and Birmingham before that in 2005.

Alex Bruce failed to make a single appearance for Hull this season and was even set out on loan to Wigan for the second half of the campaign, where he made just two appearances as the Latics also suffered relegation to League One.

He has however clocked up 192 appearances throughout his career in the English second tier, playing for the likes of Ipswich, Leeds, Sheffield Wednesday and Hull.

Now, Aston Villa do currently have James Chester and Nathan Baker occupying their centre-back positions, while last summer’s signing Tommy Elphick is the backup on the bench.

But, Bruce could be looking to work with his son, who is available on a free deal once more as he looks to help Villa back into the Premier League.
