Garry Monk has left his managerial role at Leeds – and fans on Twitter want Simon Grayson to replace him and return home.

The club confirmed on their official website on Thursday afternoon that the 38-year-old had resigned from his job at Elland Road.

A statement read that they were “shocked” and “disappointed” at Monk’s decision, who was expected to extend his contract at the club.

Monk’s current deal was due to expire at the end of June, with chairman Andrea Radrizzani confirming on his personal Twitter account that he had offered him a three-year deal.

Nonetheless, supporters want their former boss Simon Grayson to make a return to the club, with many fans showing their love for the 47-year-old.

At this moment in time, leading bookmaker Sky Bet have priced Grayson as a 20/1 outsider to replace Monk in the dugout.

Grayson is currently manager of Leeds’ Championship rivals Preston North End, who enjoyed a successful campaign under the Englishmen this season.

He helped them finish a respectable 11th in the table, four places below and 13 points behind seventh-placed Leeds, who missed out on a top six spot by five points.

Grayson was the manager of Leeds for a four-year period between 2008-12, helping them secure promotion from League One in his first season in charge.

During the following campaign, they narrowly missed out on a top-six spot and he was sacked in 2012 by then-owner Ken Bates.

One fan stated that Grayson is “proper” Leeds and they would like to see the club get him back into the club, while another supporter thinks that he is their best bet.

Added to that, another fan thinks that he has “proved” that he is a “quality manager” as many were backing the decision to bring back Grayson.
