Hoddle: Sigurdsson would be perfect for Tottenham

Glenn Hoddle believes that Tottenham’s reported target Gylfi Sigurdsson would fit in perfectly to the club’s style of play.

The Mail claim that Spurs are considering a move to re-sign the 27-year-old midfielder in the summer after selling him to Swansea in 2014.

The report details that Mauricio Pochettino is considering a £25million swoop for the Swans playmaker and believes he would be a better option than £50million-rated Ross Barkley from Everton.

Sigurdsson was moved on from White Hart Lane in the summer that Pochettino arrived as manager, but he was not involved in the transfer decision.

Hoddle is confident that the Iceland international would slot into Pochettino’s system and would be a brilliant addition.

“Outside of the top six, he is the player with the best technique and creativity,” Hoddle wrote in the Mail. ”In a struggling Swansea team, he’s made 13 assists and scored nine, he’s a wonderful free-kick specialist and can play with both feet.

“When he left Tottenham he had been playing on the left-hand side of a 4-4-2 and you’re never going to get the best out of him. Now he’s a much better player than he was three years ago.”

He added: “In fact, he would be perfect for Tottenham in the system they play, with Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen. He could play left, right and central.”

Sigurdsson has played a major role in keeping Swansea in the Premier League this season and Hoddle feels he is the most gifted player outside of the top-six clubs.

The attacking midfielder has made 39 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring 10 goals and supplying 13 assists.

He would be able to help bolster the Spurs squad ahead of next season as they look to compete in both domestic competitions and in Europe.

Sigurdsson could slot into any of Spurs’ attacking position, with the likes of Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and Heung-Min Son all interchangeable this year.

The goalscoring midfielder has proved himself in the top flight during recent seasons and may feel he has a point to prove after a difficult first spell with Spurs.
