Everton manager Ronald Koeman has revealed that goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg will miss the upcoming Premier League game against Watford.

The Toffees host Watford on Friday night in the league and will be looking for a positive result in their final home match of the season.

Ronald Koeman’s side are now guaranteed a seventh-placed finish this campaign and their form at Goodison Park has played a major role in them qualifying for Europe.

However, veteran shot stopper Stekelenburg will miss the last home game and his teammate Joel Robles is the likely replacement.

Koeman has revealed via the club’s personal Twitter account that the 34-year-old will be absent due to a groin injury, but he will welcome back Morgan Schneiderlin to the side following his return to fitness.

Stekelenburg had started the three previous games for the Merseyside club and had retained his number one status.

The 58-time capped Holland international has been battling with Robles for a starting position this campaign and Koeman has alternated between the pair.

Stekelenburg has made 21 appearances across all competitions and managed five clean sheets in return.

Meanwhile, rival Robles has made 19 appearances and kept an impressive nine clean sheets.

Everton travel to Arsenal in their final game of the season after the Watford clash and Koeman will be looking to finish his first campaign in style.
