Nottingham Forest manager Mark Warburton admits the club’s miserable form away from home will need addressing ahead of next season.

The Championship club suffered their worst away record for almost 90 years, winning just two of their 24 away games in the Championship last season.

Their shocking form away from the City Ground saw them dragged into a relegation battle, only for the Midlands club to break the shackles on the final day of the season and remain in the division on goal difference.

But Warburton insists it’s a problem that will need addressing if his side are to improve next season, but admits he is not overly concerned due to the manner of their performances.

He told the Nottingham Post: “The home form was strong and the away form was weak. There is no denying that. It is simple.

“That stats are clear. But had we gone away to places and struggled, had we not dominated on the ball and created chance after chance, I would be concerned.

“But you saw us go to tough places and produce good, dominant performances and not get our rewards. We will look at how we approach away games, because it is our job to do so. But I don’t see a huge amount wrong in the games we played.”

Their frustrations on the road were echoed in the 1-0 defeat to Cardiff on April 17, where Nottingham Forest registered 61% possession, had 23 shots on goal, and had six more corners than their opponents.

The trip to Queens Park Rangers that followed was a similarly frustrating afternoon, with another dominant display ending in a defeat for Forest.

Nottingham Forest’s form at home wasn’t brilliant either, but their 12 wins proved invaluable at the end of the season in determining their Championship survival.

Warburton arrived at the club in March, and will be granted his first opportunity to put his own stamp on the first-team squad when the transfer window re-opens this summer.

He will also have the financial backing of the club’s new owner Evangelos Marinakis, following the Greek businessman’s successful takeover of the club earlier this month.
