Pontus Jansson has thanked Leeds supporters for an “eventual” season – and fans on Twitter have reacted positively to his message.

It has been an action-packed week for the Elland Road faithful, which started with Italian Andrea Radrizzani completing his takeover of the club last Tuesday.

Two days after Radrizzani had replaced Massimo Cellino as the club’s chief, manager Garry Monk abruptly quit his job to the surprise of the supporters.

This despite helping the Yorkshire club to a top seven finish, which saw them narrowly miss out on a play-off spot.

Centre-back Jansson, who joined the club last summer from Torino, played a big part in their success this term and he was clearly grateful for the support he received from those associated with the club.

When reacting to his Twitter message, one fan stated “finally some loyalty” clearly making reference to Monk’s decision to leave the club.

Another supporter added by saying “Pontus for player-manager”, with the Sweden international building a good relationship with the fans during his debut season at the club.

Nonetheless, the Elland Road faithful were just pleased to hear a positive and uplifting message as they will now be looking at appointing a new manager ahead of the new Championship season.

Jansson played 36 games in all competitions for Leeds this season, helping them secure 13 clean sheets added with his three goals in the Championship – those strikes came against Norwich, Aston Villa and Blackburn.
