Celtic have targeted midfielders Lucas and Charly Musonda ahead of the summer transfer market, according to a report.

The Mail claim that Brendan Rodgers wants to improve his squad to help them compete in the Champions League next season.

It is understood that the Bhoys are keen on a move for Liverpool’s 30-year-old stalwart and Rodgers previously worked with him during his time as the manager at Anfield.

Lucas is out of contract in the summer and will be allowed to leave on a free transfer, with the lure of Champions League football making a move to Celtic Park possible.

The report also details that Chelsea’s attacking midfielder Musonda is another target to help their European ambitions.

It is believed that the recently-crowned champions may consider loaning out their fringe player, with the 20-year-old still awaiting his first team appearance at Stamford Bridge.

Celtic disappointed in their Champions League efforts this season and finished bottom of their group, despite facing a difficult draw.

They drew three and lost three of their six group games, including going undefeated against Premier League side Manchester City.

However, a crushing 7-0 away defeat at the hands of Barcelona showed the gulf in class and Rodgers is looking to be better prepared this time around.

The Bhoys do remain unbeaten domestically, though, and are one cup final victory away from a treble.

Liverpool man Lucas would certainly bring added experience to the squad and has the qualities to play in both midfield and defence.

The Brazilian has racked up 344 appearances for the Merseyside club and could be a perfect calming influence in the Celtic midfield.

Meanwhile, the pacy Musonda is at the beginning of his career, but still has an impressive loan spell at La Liga club Real Betis under his belt.

The attacking midfielder made 24 senior appearances for the Spanish side and managed three assists for them.
