Newcastle want to sign up Tom Cairney.
According to a report in the Daily Mirror, the Fulham midfielder is wanted to boost Rafa Benitez’s side in next season’s Premier League.
Cairney has been in outstanding form this season and one of the driving forces behind Fulham’s late run into a play- off place.
The 26-year-old recently made his full international debut for Scotland and made a big impression with a goal during Fulham’s 3-1 win at St James Park in March.
Benitez has made it clear that his squad needs major surgery in the summer and has been looking for a commanding midfielder since early in the season.
Newcastle failed to make any significant signings during the January transfer window with Benitez badly let down in his attempt to sign Andros Townsend.
The former Liverpool boss sought reassurances over future transfer activity and expects full boardroom backing this summer as he takes Newcastle back to the Premier League.
