Aston Villa face strong competition for the signature of Sam Hughes.
According to the Birmingham Mail half a dozen clubs are all showing interest in the Chester defender.
Hughes has been in outstanding form for the National League side and will have his pick of clubs when he leaves at the end of his contract.
Chester will be due a development fee but that will be a fraction of what Hughes would be worth on the open market.
Ironically Villa’s failure to win promotion could work in their favour and give the 19-year-old a clearer route the first team football next season.
Steve Bruce has decided to focus some of Villa’s transfer attention on the non-league scene due to the number of English players being forced out of the professional game.
With a hunger to succeed and local knowledge bringing in Hughes could be much more rewarding than an expensive punt on foreign ‘gold’.
