Chelsea are preparing an end of season move for Ryan Bertrand.

According to a report on talkSPORT the Southampton defender has been identified as the type of player needed for Chelsea to compete for domestic and European honours next season.

The 27-year-old has been in impressive form for Southampton this season and could now be on the brink of an unlikely return to Stamford Bridge.

Bertrand was an unlikely hero of Chelsea’s 2012 Champions League success over Bayern Munich but left the club two years later, initially on loan, for Southampton.

The qualities that impressed in 2012 have attracted the attention of Antonio Conte who believes that the Saints defender could play in any position on the left hand side.

Conte is planning a number of additions for next season with Bertrand having the flexibility to play on the left of a three man or four man defence with Southampton putting a £30m price tag on his head.
