Manchester City have emerged as favourites to sign Benjamin Mendy.
According to a report in the Daily Star the Monaco defender won’t consider a move to a club unable to guarantee him Champions League football.
Mendy is in his first season at Monaco and has helped the French side reach the last four of the Champions League with Spurs and Manchester City victims on their road to the semi-finals.
Pep Guardiola is going to have a completely recast back four next season with the former Barcelona boss believing that the full back positions are key to the way that his side play the ball out of defence.
Mendy fits Guardiola’s requirements perfectly with the Manchester City boss keen to get business completed early in the transfer window.
Manchester United have also been linked with the 22-year-old but it might not be until after the Europa League final that they can confirm a place in next season’s Champions League.
