Chelsea want to bring Romelu Lukaku back to Stamford Bridge.
According to a report in The Mirror, Antonio Conte has named the Everton striker as his first choice summer signing target.
Last week it was claimed that Everton had slapped a £100m fee on Lukaku’s head but Chelsea are hoping to re-sign the striker for no more than £70m.
Antonio Conte has an interest in Alexis Sanchez but with Arsene Wenger going on record opposing any transfer to a direct rival getting Lukaku from Everton seems a less complex move.
Everton had been in talks with the striker’s representatives about a new contract but despite claims of a deal being 99% in place talks broke down when it emerged that Lukaku’s next contract will be dependent on Champions League football.
Chelsea can offer that and provide a roundabout route to first team football for the player that they brought to English football before sending him out on loan to West Brom and Everton.
