Aston Villa want to sign Sam Johnstone on a permanent basis.

According to a report in The Sun the on-loan Manchester United keeper has did enough to convince Steve Bruce to make a £3m bid to secure the stopper.

Despite Villa’s unconvincing form since the turn of the year Johnstone has impressed in his 13 appearances to date.

Bruce made bringing in the 24-year-old a priority when he took charge at Villa Park with the keeper responding with some assured performances.

Having enjoyed loan spells at Doncaster and Preston, Johnstone already has the experience needed to succeed in The Championship.

With his hopes of progress limited at Old Trafford United could accept a £3m offer provide that a sell on clause is included.

It’s believed that there is also some interest in Johnstone from Premier League clubs, including Everton, Sunderland and Bournemouth but regular first team football is more likely with Villa.
