Newcastle move in for Gylfi

|

Newcastle have joined the chase to sign Gylfi Sigurdsson.

According to a report in The Sun Rafa Benitez wants to bring in the Swansea forward to lead the charge with Newcastle back in the top flight.

Everton and West Ham have been linked recently with Sigurdsson who had two difficult seasons at Spurs before joining Swansea in 2015.

The 27-year-old has been happier under Paul Clement but recently admitted that he’d be interested in playing for a club involved in Europe.

Everton and West Ham have never appeared in the Champions League but Newcastle hope that the Rafa factor and playing in front of 50,000 fans can play a part in signing the Icelandic international.

Newcastle are currently seven points clear of third placed Huddersfield and looking likely to return to the top flight at the first time of asking.

After a disappointing January when they failed to sign Andros Townsend, Benitez will be expecting significant backing in the summer.
