Manchester United are keen to sign Eric Dier.

According to a report in The Sun the Spurs man has been identified as the ideal replacement for Michael Carrick.

Ironically Carrick was signed from Spurs with United having to negotiate their way with Daniel Levy if Jose Mourinho is to get his first choice midfielder.

The return of Carrick to the United midfield changed their season around but there is no sentiment with Mourinho who wants a younger fresher version of the midfielder.

After scouting across Europe the United boss is hoping that he can pick up Dier for £40m although a swap could be arranged with half a dozen United players out of favour.

Dier signed a five year deal with Spurs earlier in the season but United could offer to double his current £70,000 a week salary forcing Spurs into a big decision over whether to match the offer from Old Trafford or sell up.
