Larsson leaves contract talks on back burner

|

Seb Larsson has put his contract situation on the back burner as he attempts another relegation escape act.

According to a report in the Sunderland Echo the midfielder, whose contract expires in June, won’t discuss a new deal until the club’s fate is known.

Larsson is in his sixth season at Sunderland and the most experienced player on the books at the Stadium of Light.

Having allowed the 31-year-old to enter the final season of his deal there is every chance that the club is preparing for his departure.

With Sunderland seven points short of safety David Moyes is looking for five wins from the ten remaining matches to retain top flight status.

Larsson has been a regular in the side since returning from injury in December and won’t be short of offers if Sunderland get relegated.

As well as Larsson, John O’Shea, Victor Anichebe, Steven Piennar and Jan Kirchhoff are out of contract as is Joleon Lescott who signed a short term deal in January.
