Leeds United turned down the option to buy Omar Bogle on transfer deadline day.

According to a report in The Express, Grimsby director John Fentry explained to the local newspaper that Leeds were offered the striker on exactly the same terms as Wigan who completed the transfer just before the deadline passed.

Bogle was the top scorer in League Two after being the driving force in their return to the Football League.

Grimsby paid Solihull Motors a token fee for the striker in the summer of 2015 with the National League side due a cut in the deal that took the striker to Wigan.

After a month of speculation 24-year-old Bogle signed for Wigan in a deal believed to involve an initial fee of £750,000 with further payments due dependent on the player’s progress.

Bogle would have seemed a perfect fit for Leeds and ease the scoring burden from Chris Wood but for whatever reason the striker will be wearing Wigan colours for the remainder of the season.
