Celtic kick off talks to give Gordon a new deal

|

Celtic have taken the first steps to get Craig Gordon tied down onto a new contract.

According to a report in The Daily Mail the players agent has been in Glasgow to discuss a new contract for the keeper.

Brendan Rodgers was adamant that he wouldn’t allow the keeper to move despite claims that Chelsea were prepared to pay the best part of £4m for a 34-year-old that was signed on a free transfer.

Gordon is believed to be on around £12,000/week with the onus now on Celtic to give his salary a significant hike as well as extending it beyond June 2018.

Chelsea wanted to sign Gordon as back up to Thibaut Courtois allowing them to sell Asmir Begovic for £12m.

With Begovic staying put Antonio Conte didn’t bring in a new keeper in January leaving the door open to put in a bid for Gordon in the summer- if Celtic haven’t secured their keeper onto a new contract.
