Steve Bruce has been reassured that his job isn’t under threat.

According to a report in The Telegraph the Aston Villa boss has had contact with owner Tony Xia who has no worries about appointing the former Birmingham boss.

Villa went into last night’s trip to Newcastle on the back of a miserable record of six defeats from their last seven Championship matches.

That run has alarmed Villa fans- especially after the club spent £20m during the January transfer window.

That level of investment was meant to put the club into play-off contention but unless results improve quickly Villa could be involved in the relegation fight.

Bruce has earned the reputation of a Championship specialist with his most recent success coming last season at Hull City.

Despite his Birmingham connection Bruce was welcomed by most Villa fans as the best man to take the club back up into the Premier League but the patience of the fans- and the board- is bound to be tested unless results quickly pick up.
