Steve Bruce is taking a close look at Chris Samba as he attempts to halt Aston Villa’s slide towards the Championship relegation battle.
According to a report on talkSPORT the experienced defender who is a free agent is training with Villa.
Bruce spent extensively during the January transfer window but has yet to see any benefit from the new signings with Villa picking up just one point from the last eight matches.
Samba had his contract with Panathaikos cancelled before Christmas and spent some time training with Crystal Palace but Sam Allardyce opted to bring in Liverpool’s Mamadou Sakho on loan.
After five years with Blackburn Rovers Samba was involved in some bizarre transfer dealings which saw him move to Russian side Anzi in a £12m deal.
Villa have lost 13 goals in their last seven matches but with the transfer window closed Bruce has had to look at free agents in a bid to strengthen his side’s defence.
