Middlesbrough are set to rival Liverpool for the signing of Jese Rodriguez.

According to a report in Metro Aitor Karanka is ready to put in a bid for the out of favour Paris St Germain striker.

Karanka worked with the striker at Real Madrid and believes that the 23-year-old can help solve ‘Boro’s scoring problems.

Rodriguez left Real Madrid for PSG during the summer transfer window but has failed to make any impact with the French champions.

Las Palmas had hoped to get the striker on loan for the second half of the season but are unlikely to be able to finance that deal.

Jurgen Klopp has expressed an interest in Rodriguez but has failed to follow up by putting a bid on the table.

Middlesbrough have dropped to fifth from bottom of the Premier League with their goal tally- 17 from 20 matches- the worst in the division alongside bottom of the table Hull City.
