Rafa Benitez has added Tom Cleverley to his January shopping list.

According to a report in The Sun the out of favour Everton midfielder is wanted on loan until the end of the season to ensure a quick return to the Premier League for Newcastle.

Benitez has steered Newcastle into a comfortable position nine points ahead of third placed Reading but is determined to ensure that there are no slip ups as he takes Newcastle back to the big time.

Securing promotion at the earliest opportunity is the priority with Cleverley joining Fabian Delph and Ruben Loftus-Cheek on the Newcastle wanted list.

The career of the former Manchester United man has stalled under Ronald Koeman with little likelihood of his first team prospects improving with Koeman planning a January spending spree.

Everton would rather sell the 27-year-old in a cash deal but with nothing in the way of offers they may have to turn to a loan deal to put Cleverley in the shop window for a summer transfer.
