Zlatan Ibrahimovic has turned down an offer that would have made him the first £1m/week footballer.

According to a report in The Mail the Manchester United striker has rejected a deal straight from the Chinese government at would have provided the Swede with a £56m a year salary.

That deal was put in front of Ibrahimovic during the summer but he elected to join Manchester United instead.

After scoring 16 goals in 25 matches since signing his Old Trafford deal the Chinese government are ready to return and raise their offer.

Ibrahimovic signed a 12 month deal with Manchester United in the summer with the club set to take up a further 12 month extension that will keep the Swede at Old Trafford until 2018.

The Chinese authorities believe that they could turn around a profit on the Ibrahimovic deal by bringing in massive commercial deals on the back of the Swedish striker.

It’s reported that Ibrahimovic believes he will still be able to pick up a mega bucks Chinese deal when his Manchester United contract ends in 2018.
