Monk wants to bring in new striker to Leeds

Gary Monk can’t wait for the transfer window to open and bring in a new striker to Elland Road.

In an interview with the Yorkshire Evening Post the Leeds United boss confirmed that he will step up his transfer efforts as he waits to find out the extent of Chris Wood’s hamstring injury.

With 11 goals from 14 Championship matches Wood has been the biggest factor in Leeds’ push into a play-off place.

The New Zealand born striker missed two months of last season through injury with Monk desperate to bring in a new striker regardless of how long the striker will be out for after being injured at Reading.

Striker’s one area, definitely,” the Leeds boss said. “I said that in the summer and it’s one area we need to strengthen.

There are other areas too but I’m sure the club’s working hard to address those situations. For now, I just focus on the group I’ve go.”

Leeds have tricky away matches at Preston and Aston Villa to get through before the transfer window opens on January 1.

With eight teams separated by six points outside the top two it seems that the battle for play-off places will be as frantic as ever.
