The FA want to fast-track John Terry into the England set up.

According to a report in The Standard the Chelsea legend has been picked out alongside Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard, Paul Scholes and Ashley Cole to transfer their international playing experience into the world of coaching.

FA technical director Dan Ashworth is behind the plan and has sounded Terry out about the idea which will assist the former players in getting their UEFA A and Pro Licenses and get working with under-age international teams.

Terry is out of contract at the end of this season and will decide whether to make a lucrative move abroad to wind down his playing career or to start up in coaching.

Gareth Southgate is a supporter of the plan having worked his way through the different levels to take charge of the full international set.

Another motivation for the plan is to retain players within the game rather than followed stars like Jamie Carragher, Gary Neville and Rio Ferdinand.
