Blackburn Rovers manager Owen Coyle has claimed that West Ham United’s Martin Samuelsen needs to stop over complicating things on the field to make his loan stint a success, report ClubCall.

Having only made a single Championship start on loan at Ewood Park so far this term, the Norway international seems to be a victim of his own skill and trickery according to Coyle.

Speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph, the Rovers boss claimed: “What he’s got to understand, and he’ll learn and get better once he’s done that, is that you deliver that cross. You don’t have to go and beat your man again.

“Ultimately wide players are judged on their end product.”

Having showcased his huge potential on loan at Peterborough United last term where he was especially impressive against West Bromwich Albion in the FA Cup, Coyle’s sparing use of Samuelsen this term has looked odd on first glance.

Currently struggling in the Championship relegation zone in 23rd place, you’d think Rovers could benefit from the Hammers’ loan star who can easily beat opponents one-on-one but it appears Samuelsen isn’t the biggest team player right now.

That said, Coyle is still looking forward to get the very best out of the clearly talented Samuelsen going forward, claiming: “But he’s certainly going to get better. It was important to give him that opportunity to do that.”
