They are currently blessed for talented central midfielders but despite this, Southampton are interested in an end-of-season swoop for Crystal Palace’s Yohan Cabaye, report the Croydon Advertiser.

Having already been managed by Claude Puel during their time together at Lille, the experienced 30-year-old French international is in the Saints’ sights should the Eagles flatter to deceive this term.

Suffering with injury so far this term, Cabaye has started to look like his old self in starting Crystal Palace’s last three games and Southampton have been keeping a close eye on his form.

While a lot can change between now and the forthcoming summer transfer window, it is difficult to see where Cabaye could fit in right now however.

Both Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and James Ward-Prowse were only substitutes in the 2-1 defeat to Hull City yesterday and with Jordy Clasie, Steven Davis and the impressive Oriol Romeu to call upon, accommodating Cabaye would prove difficult right now.
