In the lead up to the opening of the January transfer window, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has ruled out any chance of the Bhoys landing Daniel Sturridge this winter, report HITC.

Speaking on talkSPORT’s Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show this morning, the Hoops boss was responding to Micky Quinn who questioned whether Sturridge could make a loan move to Celtic Park in two months’ time.

Putting it rather bluntly, Rodgers claimed: “We wouldn’t be able to. Danny is an outstanding player. He’s a great boy, Daniel, behind it all. He wants to play at the highest level. No matter where he plays, he will always get goals.”

Straight talking and honest in his debut season as Celtic manager so far, it would appear Rodgers concedes that Celtic aren’t playing at a level comparable to Sturridge’s ambitions at this moment in time.

Only a bit-part player under Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool so far this season, West Ham United and Stoke City have been linked as other potential destinations for 27-year-old Sturridge.

Elsewhere, Manchester United are reportedly set to test Celtic’s resolve regarding Moussa Dembele’s signature in January and if a move came to fruition, the Hoops would need to think about a replacement.
