Facing Borussia Monchengladbach away in the Champions League tonight, Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers believes the Hoops can reach the last 16 of the competition in two to three years, report STV News.

Currently bottom of Group C on just one point, progression to the knockout round appears unlikely this season but Rodgers was’t downbeat about the Bhoys’ long-term prospects in the competition.

When quizzed whether Celtic could make the last 16 over the next two to three years, Rodgers claimed: “I would hope so yes. That’s the process we’re beginning.

“They’ve arrived into this level, in the toughest group in the competition and of course it’s been difficult for them. We don’t see it as a threat.”

The step up in class from the Scottish Premiership to the Champions League is a huge chasm right now, showcased in the fact that Celtic faced difficulties against Lincoln Red Imps, Astana and Hapoel Be’er Sheva in the qualifying rounds.

However, Celtic remain undefeated in the Scottish Premiership so far this season and having defeated Old Firm rivals Rangers twice so far this term, it has been plain sailing on a domestic front.
