Linked with a surprise January swoop for Watford’s Troy Deeney yesterday, West Ham United’s reported interest has been immediately dismissed by his agent, report ClubCall.

A Hornets legend with Deeney having scored over 90 league goals since signing back in 2010, his agent Michael Ricketts has simply claimed the Hammers link has been pulled out of thin air.

Speaking to the Watford Observer, former Bolton Wanderers star Ricketts claimed: “I heard the rumour this morning; it’s not true, not even close.

“There’s no interest at the moment and Troy is just concentrating on playing for Watford and trying to get in the England squad.”

Having only scored 11 Premier League goals so far this season, Slaven Bilic’s side boast the third worst record in the top flight and while they await Andy Carroll’s return from injury, more striking reinforcements wouldn’t go amiss.

With Michail Antonio single-handedly carrying the goalscoring fight this term, it is vital that the Hammers start scoring more goals to stave off a relegation dogfight.

With Troy Deeney adored by Watford fans, the rumour always looked far-fetched and given Ricketts’ latest comments, it appears West Ham United will now have to look elsewhere, if they were even interested at all of course.
