Tottenham’s central defender, Jan Vertonghen has all but signed on for a new contract this week, but his new deal will not put him in the £100,000 or more bracket according to (The Mirror).

The Belgian, whose current £60,000-a-week contract expires in 2018, has agreed a new deal with Spurs to put him amongst their top earners.

The 29 year-old has a made positive start to this season at the back alongside Toby Alderweireld. Tottenham’s are still unbeaten and have conceded just 6 goals in 11 games.

Harry Kane is also currently on £60,000-a-week, and is keen to secure a contract at least as good as Jamie Vardy’s £100,000-a-week deal which he signed at Leicester during the summer.

Spurs Chairman Daniel Levy maintains a strict wage cap, which is also being put to the test by Hugo Lloris whose contract expires in 2019. The chairman has stressed he will not breach a 100,000 salary.

In recent months, Dele Alli, Kyle Walker, Danny Rose and Eric Dier have all put pen to paper and committed their future to the side.
