Ronald Koeman doesn’t want Liverpool to have a Mersey monopoly on ex Southampton players.

According to a report in the Liverpool Echo the Goodison boss wouldn’t have any problem bringing in new recruits from his old club.

Everton travel to the south coast tomorrow with Koeman likely to get a hot reception after the way he departed from Southampton.

Virgil van Dijk and Sam McQueen have been linked with Liverpool this week but with the January transfer window soon to be open there could be other offers coming in for the Saints defenders.

If we like to sign a player from Southampton for the future and if we think all the people in Everton that we need that player then we try to get the player in,” Koeman told the Echo.

It’s not exception because it’s Southampton. It’s what we like to have and what we like to sign. If that’s a player of Southampton, then that’s a player of Southampton.”

After an impressive start to the season Everton have only managed one Premier League win in their last seven matches, last weekend they were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Swansea.

With new investment at the club and close to £50m banked from the sale of John Stones to Manchester City, Koeman is expected to be very active in January.
