Recently linked with an £18 million transfer to Chelsea, Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez has been told he is under no pressure to sell Jamaal Lascelles in January, report The Northern Echo.

Instated as the Magpies’ captain this season, the 22-year-old has slowly become a dependable figure in the heart of Newcastle United’s defence and has made 15 Championship starts so far in 2016/17.

Given his form and consistency, Antonio Conte’s Blues are reportedly keen on signing up Lascelles but it would appear the St. James’ Park club are financially stable right now.

On course for an immediate return to the Premier League right now with the Magpies top of the Championship table after 15 games played, Newcastle United also made a profit in the summer, receiving multi-million fees for the likes of Andros Townsend, Moussa Sissoko and Georginio Wijnaldum.

Originally signed for just £7 million alongside Karl Darlow from Nottingham Forest in August 2014, Lascelles achieved his breakthrough under Rafael Benitez last term and is now an ever-present in their quest to reach the top flight again.
