He recently enjoyed a scoring streak in two games against Preston North End and now, it’s been revealed Newcastle United striker Aleksandar Mitrovic almost joined Roma, report Sport Witness.

According to Alfredo Pedulla, the Serie A giants were close to landing the Serbian international in the summer transfer window of 2015 but eventually plumped for Edin Dzeko from Manchester City instead.

Ending up joining Newcastle United for £13 million in July 2015, Mitrovic endured a testing first campaign at St. James’ Park but seems to be flourishing in a lesser division under new management.

Missing the start of the season through suspension, Mitrovic has also had to contend with the form and consistency of Dwight Gayle so far this term.

However, after his recent scoring streak, Mitrovic was given another opportunity to start under Rafael Benitez in the Magpies’ 2-1 victory over Cardiff City in the Championship on Saturday.

Also named in the Serbia squad for the forthcoming World Cup Qualifier against Wales on November 12th, Mitrovic looks like he’s getting back to his best form, showcased at Anderlecht between 2013 and 2015 of course.
