Newcastle United are facing competition from Championship promotion rivals Norwich City in the race to land Swindon Town goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux, report The Sun.

The 22-year-old clearly has potential having been on the books of both Tottenham and Liverpool as a younger player and his impressive form with League One Swindon Town has reportedly alerted the Magpies.

Born in London but eligible to represent Chile given his heritage, The Sun’s report claims that Rafael Benitez has earmarked Vigouroux as a player who could make the step up to the Premier League, if the Magpies get promoted of course.

Currently boasting both Matz Sels and Karl Darlow in their goalkeeping ranks, Benitez has rotated between the pair of them so far this Championship season, suggesting he still doesn’t know who his best number one is.

This evidence gives further credence to the Vigouroux rumours with the 6 ft 5 in stopper still boasting his best years ahead of him given he is only 22.
