While they took quite a while to become embroiled in silly season over the summer, it’s fair to conclude that Everton boss Ronald Koeman was rather shrewd in the transfer market.
Despite Enner Valencia not yet showing what he’s really made of, fellow additions Maarten Stekelenburg, Ashley Williams, Idrissa Gueye and Yannick Bolasie have all started their Toffees careers positively.
Having conceded the second fewest amount of goals (8) so far this Premier League season, Koeman has got Everton functioning as a tight-knit unit that gives little away.
We say tight-knit unit but if we’re honest, there is far greater squad depth in the Toffees ranks’ nowadays with Koeman able to call upon Kevin Mirallas, Gerard Deulofeu, Aaron Lennon and Yannick Bolasie as exciting options on the wing.
In the centre of the park, the likes of Gareth Barry, James McCarthy, Muhamed Besic and Idrissa Gueye are fighting it out while in goal, Joel Robles represents sturdy back-up for Stekelenburg.
With heavy competition for places at Goodison Park right now, it is only natural that Koeman has had to send some squad players out on loan this term.
