Having seen a transfer request turned down by Leeds United in August, both West Bromwich Albion and Newcastle United are set to fight for Charlie Taylor’s signature this January, report Shields Gazette.

While the report claims Tony Pulis’ Baggies are leading the race for the £5 million rated Whites star, the Magpies are a more recent admirer of the 23-year-old who has started every Championship fixture under Garry Monk this term.

Yesterday, it was reported that Newcastle United scouts have already been keeping a close eye on Leeds United duo Taylor and Ronaldo Vieira and it appears the Elland Road club have a big decision to make in the New Year.

Having reluctantly parted with Sam Byram and Lewis Cook in recent times, Leeds United have eventually gave in to bigger fish and with Taylor having previously wanted out, keeping a player against his wishes is a tricky game.

In terms of the two interested parties, current West Bromwich Albion left back Allan Nyom is really a right back by trade while as for Newcastle United, Massadio Haidara is injury prone while Achraf Lazaar is yet to feature.

Paul Dummett has been the regular left back for the Magpies but still leading the Championship table, Rafael Benitez’s interest in Taylor could be with a view to spending next season in the Premier League.
