Linked with a move for Joey Barton in recent days, Leeds United have denied any interest in wanting to sign the 34-year-old midfielder, report Inside Futbol.

According to a tweet from the Yorkshire Evening Post’s Phil Hay, the Whites “definitely won’t be approaching” Barton following a controversial short-term stint at Rangers.

Set to depart Ibrox following a suspension for a training ground incident following the Gers’ 5-1 thumping by Celtic in September, Leeds United, Aston Villa and Burnley had been linked with Barton’s signature recently.

However, Garry Monk’s promotion chasing Whites side won’t be looking to cash in on Barton’s experience with the former Manchester City man a big part of the reason why Sean Dyche’s Burnley reached the Premier League last term.

Currently boasting plenty of options could can play in central midfield with Eunan O’Kane and Kalvin Phillips starting last weekend’s 2-3 win over Norwich City, Leeds United may instead focus their energy on signing Pontus Jansson in a permanent deal.
