Embarking on his next career move having departed LA Galaxy this week, Ray Parlour has suggested Rafael Benitez’s Newcastle United should make a move for Steven Gerrard, report HITC.

Speaking to talkSPORT’s Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show this morning, the Arsenal legend believes Benitez should pursue a reunion with 36-year-old Gerrard, whether it be as a player or in a coaching capacity.

Former England international Parlour claimed: “Would he join Newcastle as a coach, under Rafael Benitez?

“That would be a big, big name. Newcastle fans would love that, someone of his calibre involved in the club.”

Managing Gerrard in his own six-year association as Liverpool manager, Benitez must be someone the midfielder admires greatly and with the Magpies looking for an immediate Premier League return, Gerrard would bring plenty of experience.

Linked with a Celtic switch as well, there has also been talk of Liverpool re-signing Gerrard in a player or coaches’ role so there are plenty of suitors regarding the midfielder’s next move it seems.
